Karlovac is a city that really does have 'a certain something'. It is a place where Croatia’s rolling hills and lowland stretches come together, a place where Mother Nature playfully merged four rivers into a place of singular beauty. Karlovac is a city that really does have 'a certain something'. It is a place where Croatia’s rolling hills and lowland stretches come together, a place where Mother Nature playfully merged four rivers into a place of singular beauty. The longest of the four rivers is the Kupa, and should you visit the Fogin beach in the very centre of the city you will be swimming in her waters. The Mrežnica, Dobra and Korana rivers flow into the Kupa. We can say with confidence that Karlovac is one of the most popular destinations in continental Croatia because very few places can compete with its many day trip locations, beaches and must see vistas.

It is an ideal location for an active vacation. First of all, there's rafting and canoeing, especially in the spring when the water level is high. The nearby canyons and river rapids offer many opportunities for excitement. There’s also plenty of excitement for cyclists on the attractive 39 kilometre long Karlovac – Jaškovo – Karlovac cycling route that will leave even the most demanding cyclists impressed.

Karlovac’s proximity to the Plitvice Lakes National Park also elevates its position among tourist destinations in Croatia. In fact many tourists stop in Karlovac on their way to see our most famous national park. Karlovac greets visitors with a combination of Renaissance architecture in the city's centre and the well preserved industrial architecture from Yugoslavia, when Karlovac was an industrial centre. There is also the nearby 13th century settlement of the Old Town of Dubovac, one of several interesting historical sites you must visit when in Karlovac.

People flock to Karlovac during its traditional Days of Beer. This is a festival that takes place every year at the end of August and turns the city into an entertainment centre for seven days. As local beer lovers say – our own Oktoberfest. Worldly, but ours!
