The oldest self-made town on the Adriatic coast has a thousand-year history that can be seen all over town. Its signature building is Saint Jacob's cathedral, a UNESCO heritage site. The town's centre once contained twenty-eight churches and sacral structures. Even today Šibenik is still a record holder for the largest number of sacral structures in a city centre among Dalmatian towns and cities.

Until recently an industrial centre in the region, Šibenik today is a burgeoning tourist town, priding itself on its untouched nature that merges the continental and the island parts of Croatia. While the large tourist resort of Solaris is always full, many visitors wish to experience nature on the islands of Prvić, Zlarin, Krapanj, Kapri and Žirje or the Krka or Kornati national parks.

Also known as a festival town, Šibenik can promise you a summer full of life and fun. There is the International Children's Festival, taking place here annually since 1960. Very popular among the young is the Terraneo Festival, a three-day open-air music festival that takes place in the summer. There are also Zlatni mikrofon, Musica appassionata, OFF Blues&Jazz Festival, Organ Summer School, a Dalmatian Chanson Festival, the Martinska Fešta Underground Festival, Skavillage, Treća Smjena, Regius, Sweet Sound of Summer and finally, a three-day medieval fair. One thing's for sure – there is never a dull moment in Šibenik!
